Mac Capture

The Barnard College network is open, meaning there are no restrictions placed on users as to what data they can and cannot transmit to and from the Internet. As an educational institution, we believe this is the best way to serve students, faculty, and staff members - promoting computing as a platform for study, research, and learning, without imposing unfair restrictions on our constituents.

It is therefore the responsibility of the end-user to maintain safe computing practices and safeguard themselves against illicit computing activity. For guidelines on safe computing, please visit: http://www.barnard.edu/resnet/mandatory.html

In the event that your computer has been compromised, you will be mac captured. This means you will be unable to use your computer on the Barnard College campus until the problem has been identified and your machine has been cleaned.

Possible reasons for mac capture are as follows:

  1. Virus infection
  2. Spamming
  3. Filesharing copyrighted material

For more information, please visit http://www.barnard.edu/resnet/capcomp.html. You must contact the Help Desk at 854-7172 to have your computer released.
