Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I live on campus if I am a HEOP Scholar?
A. All HEOP Scholars are guaranteed a room in a residence hall.

Q. Must I attend the summer program every summer throughout my college years?
A. The summer program is only required the summer prior to your first year of college.

Q. Do I have to pay for the summer program?
A. No. The costs of accommodations, meals, books, and supplies are all covered by the program.

Q. Can I work while attending the summer program?
A. We want your energy to be devoted to your academics. Neither the schedule of classes nor the general structure of the program will allow time for a job.

Q. Can I apply to the Arthur O. Eve HEOP Scholars Program if I am an “ABC” or “Prep for Prep” student or an “Oliver Scholar”?
A. Students are encouraged to explore the HEOP program and apply as long as the residential, academic, and financial criteria of the program are met. The Arthur O. Eve HEOP Scholars Program at Barnard College is open only for New York State residents.

Q. Can I get academic credit towards my Barnard College degree with the courses I am enrolled in during the summer program?
A. Academic credit is not granted towards your Barnard College degree but students will receive an official transcript for courses taken during the summer program. The purpose of the summer program is to help students strengthen their skills in math, science, literary analysis, writing, research, and computer use. 

Q. Can I go home over the weekend during the summer program?
A. Yes, local students can go home on weekends, but must participate in all the scheduled programs and classes.
