Weather Update

Due to the storm, Barnard College closed at 4pm Friday, for non-essential personnel. “Essential personnel" include staff in Facilities, Public Safety and Residence Halls.  

Friday evening and weekend classes are cancelled but events are going forward as planned unless otherwise noted. The Athena Film Festival programs are also scheduled to go forward as planned but please check http://athenafilmfestival.com/ for the latest information. 

The Barnard Library and Archives closed at 4pm Friday and will remain closed on Saturday, Feb. 9.  The Library will resume regular hours on Sunday opening at 10am.  

Please be advised that due to the conditions, certain entrances to campus may be closed.  The main gate at 117th Street & Broadway will remain open.  For further updates on college operations, please check this website, call the College Emergency Information Line 212-854-1002 or check AM radio station 1010WINS.

Barnard Opportunity Program (non-NYS residents)

The Barnard Opportunity Program provides a select group of students from outside New York State with the academic and financial support to succeed at Barnard and beyond. A lending library, laptop computers, free tutoring, mentoring, and study skills workshops, and graduate school preparation and career guidance are available to all BOP Scholars in addition to the resources and support they receive as Barnard students. The BOP Scholars Program benefits students who meet both the academic and financial criteria as defined by the College.

BOP Scholars Program Eligibility

In order to be considered for the BOP Scholars Program at Barnard College, a student must:

  • Be a US citizen or US permanent resident and reside in a state other than New York; (the HEOP Scholars program is for NY State residents)
  • Be 21 years of age or younger
  • Be a high school graduate by June 30 of the year she plans to enroll
  • Have a high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 or “B”
  • Have a maximum SAT Critical Reading score of 620 OR ACT English sub score of 24
  • Demonstrate significant financial need. To qualify for the BOP Scholars program, families must apply for financial aid and submit appropriate paperwork by the deadlines.

Barnard Opportunity Program Application Process

All BOP applicants must qualify academically and financially in order to be considered for BOP Scholars Program at Barnard College. Applicants must submit all of the following required documentation by the appropriate deadlines:

ADMISSIONS

There is no separate application for the BOP Scholars Program. Instead, the Office of Admissions nominates students for consideration by the HEOP/BOP Scholars Office. However, students who wish to become BOP Scholars at Barnard may express interest in the program on their Barnard Supplement to the Common Application or by notifying the Office of Admissions.
