NGOs
During our stay in Ghana, we visited four NGOs, The Ark Foundation, Women in Progress, The Progressive Women's Credit Union, and Planned Parenthood of Ghana.
- The Ark Foundation focuses on protecting and advocating for women and children in situations of domestic violence. They hold leadership training workshops for women and recently played a major role in helping pass legislation criminalizing domestic violence.
- Women in Progress works to support women to enable them to achieve economic independence through running small independent businesses. This grassroots endeavor seeks to end poverty and economic exploitation of women.
- The Progressive Women Credit Union support women in micro-entrepreneurial efforts by granting small loans with minimal interest.
- Planned Parenthood of Ghana educates youths about sexuality, AIDS, STDs, birth control, decision making, and how to maintain healthy relationship.
