Background:
Irene Bloom is the Anne Whitney Olin Professor Emerita in theDepartment of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures.  She holds a B.A. from SwarthmoreCollege and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.  Her interests are inChinese philosophy and human rights studies. She chaired the department from 1993 until her retirement in 2002.
