Weather Update

Due to the storm, Barnard College will close at 4pm today, for non-essential personnel. “Essential personnel" include staff in Facilities, Public Safety and Residence Halls.  

Friday evening and weekend classes are cancelled but events are going forward as planned unless otherwise noted. The Athena Film Festival programs are also scheduled to go forward as planned but please check http://athenafilmfestival.com/ for the latest information. 

Please be advised that due to the conditions, certain entrances to campus may be closed.  The main gate at 117th Street & Broadway will remain open.  For further updates on college operations, please check this website, call the College Emergency Information Line 212-854-1002 or check AM radio station 1010WINS.

The Barnard College Archives Photograph Collection is being digitized and is growing every day. In it you can see images from the 1890's to today. The digitized collection spans a wide variety of subjects including: Academic Classes, Buildings and Grounds, Class Portraits, Student Life and Organizations. You can also find Events like graduation ceremonies, formal dances, student protests and performances. A sampling of digitized images from the Barnard College Archives Photographic Collection are on display throughout our website.

The Barnard College Archives is the physical rights holder of all material held within the Archives. The Archives provides researchers access to material for educational and scholarly purposes. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law (Title 108), libraries and archives are authorized to furnish these specified conditions: that the reproduction not be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a patron uses a reproduction in excess of fair use as stated by Title 17, without first obtaining written permission from the Barnard College Archives, that patron may be liable for copyright infringement. Requests for commercial endeavors will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. It is entirely the responsibility of the patron to obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Digitized archival photographs are accessable for research puproses. We have indicated what we know about copyright and rights of privacy.  Due to the nature of archival collections, we are not always able to identify this information. We are eager to hear from any rights holders, so that we may provide accurate information. When a rights issue needs to be addressed, upon request we'll remove the material from public view while we look into the matter.
