Visitor Guidelines for connecting to the Barnard network

  • Barnard provides simple DHCP access to the network on campus. Many visitors will be able to connect to the Internet without assistance.

    • Visitors must keep their personal computers secure by following the Mandatory Computer Setup Guidelines.

    • Computers that are  "compromised"  are blocked from the network and directed to the Capture page.  It is very difficult for non-Barnard users to be "un-captured".

    • Visitors are not permitted to install wireless access points or routers on the campus network.  If we discover an illegal unit, we  will disable the corresponding network jack.

    • Details about the network and wireless connections are explained on the Resnet web site.

  • All network users must comply with federal copyright law.   If we receive a complaint about a specific computer, we will block access to the internet.

  • Laptops may not be plugged into any network jack or electrical outlet that results in the cord trailing across a space where people walk.

  • Additional information about using laptops in the Library is available on the Library web page.

  • The Campus phone system is not compatible with modems. You need a network card to connect to the College network.
