New Faculty/Staff COMPUTING Website * August 26, 2009 Work on a revised Faculty/Staff computing website began several months ago in order to provide better service to users. Our goal was to better organize information from a user perspective. We hope it makes technology information easier to find. We look forward to additional refinements of the website as technology services are reviewed and improved. courseworks orientations * AUGUST 24, 2009 Educational Technology offers frequent sessions on CourseWorks and related topics at the start of each semester. If you can't attend a scheduled session, or if you are interested in having staff from Educational Technology provide a CourseWorks orientation to your class, please email courseworks@barnard.edu. Web Help Desk Self-SeRvice * August 20, 2009 Web Help Desk is now the preferred method of contacting Academic Technologies to request assistance from the help desk or check the status of an existing request. Web Help Desk also features an extensive knowledge base of Frequently Asked Questions. Office 2007 migration * July 20, 2009 In summer 2009, Academic Technologies is upgrading faculty and staff computers from Office 2003 to Office 2007. There are significant advantages if we upgrade an entire department at once, so we are contacting a few departments at a time. Office applications include Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Outlook and Access. The user interface — how the program looks and the organization of commonly used commands — has changed significantly. Before we upgrade a department we provide an orientation to Office 2007 and a hands-on lab session. See the Office 2007 Resource Page. Password hoaxes and phishing schemes * July 20, 2009 Phishing emails that ask for your email login and password (and sometimes other identifying information) continue to circulate. Do not respond to any message requesting such information. As we have previously indicated: Neither Barnard nor Columbia — nor any reputable business or organization — will ever ask for your login and password in an email. Never reply to any message that does. If you sent your password to these spammers:
