Trojan.Qhosts is a virus that may interfere with your ability to connect with the network. If you're having problems connecting, please read Symantec's article and follow their removal instructions here.

Trojan.Qhosts is a Trojan Horse that will modify the TCP/IP settings to point to a different DNS server.

Trojan.Qhosts cannot spread by itself. For a computer to become infected, you would have to open an HTML page that contains code, which allows it to open a viral HTML file on the target computer, so that the script can create and run the malicious executable.

Announcement from Information Services:

Recently, students who had been using their Columbia Email Accounts to
receive mail found that this mail was automatically being forwarded to
their Barnard email accounts. This was an unintended result of an effort
to address a technical issue with the Barnard data feed to Columbia. The
problem has been resolved and the next data feed from Barnard will restore the ability to receive mail at CU to those students who had previously been able to do so. We expect this to take effect by tomorrow morning (9/27/03).

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Keep your computer as secure as possible! Don't leave yourself open to hackers. Visit our Top Ten Security Tips site for more information.

Remember, once you've activated your Columbia UNI, you can always download Norton AntiVirus through Columbia.

If you are using Outlook, Outlook Express, or Eudora to check your email and you are having problems sending email, make sure that your "outgoing mail server" or "SMTP server" is set to smtp.barnard.edu.

The Barnard SMTP server only works on campus. Off campus, try using send.columbia.edu. More information on how to connect to columbia's outgoing server is here.

Don't forget to install your Columbia Digital Certificates.
