Although the College is moving towards a unified authentication system, at this time there are still some services that use different passwords for access. The most common include:
Your Barnard Account username and password is used for access to gBear (email, calendar, and groups), the Barnard Secure wireless network, and eBear.
For new faculty and staff, this account is created at the time of hire. The username and initial password is sent to the Provost’s Office (for faculty) and to Human Resources (for staff).
You can set up a few security questions so that if you forget or need to change your Barnard Account password, you can reset it yourself online from home, over the weekend, or even at 3 in the morning! It takes just four easy steps!
Of course, faculty and staff may always visit the BCIT Service Desk (1st floor Lehman), Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and we'll be happy to change your Barnard Account password for you. Students should visit Student Computing Services in 307 Diana. Please be sure to bring your Barnard ID.
Step 1: After logging into eBear, click the “Email” tab.

Step 2: Click the “Email Utilities” link on the top menu bar.

Step 3: Click the “Pwd Self Service” link in the left-side menu bar.

Step 4: Choose three security questions and provide answers for each. Next, enter a 4-digit Personal Identification Number (Pin). Click Submit.

Once you have set up your security questions and PIN, you can reset your Barnard Account password whenever you need.
Step 1: Go to the eBear Log In page (http://ebear.barnard.edu/) and click the “forgot my password” link located below the LOGIN button.

Step 2: Enter your birthday (MMDDYY) and click Submit.

Step 3: Enter your answers to the three security questions and your 4-digit Pin number.
If you forgot your answers to the security questions:
Next, enter a new password twice and click Submit.

If you entered your password incorrectly, you will see this message in your browser window.

If you entered your password correctly, you will see this message in your browser window.

Artemis, the Barnard Novell file server, uses the same username as your Barnard account, but the passwords are not linked—if you change your Barnard account password, it won’t change your Novell password, nor vice versa. If you have lost your Novell password, you will have to come to the BCIT Service Desk with your Barnard ID card to reset this password.
Columbia UNI passwords are administered by CUIT. You can now reset your UNI password online if you have lost it by going to http://uni.columbia.edu. (You will need the nine-digit number on the back of your Barnard ID card).
Datatel accounts and passwords are not related to any other systems on campus. If you forget your Datatel password, you will need to contact the BCIT Service Desk for assistance.
