Weather Update

Due to the storm, Barnard College will close at 4pm today, for non-essential personnel. “Essential personnel" include staff in Facilities, Public Safety and Residence Halls.  

Friday evening and weekend classes are cancelled but events are going forward as planned unless otherwise noted. The Athena Film Festival programs are also scheduled to go forward as planned but please check http://athenafilmfestival.com/ for the latest information. 

Please be advised that due to the conditions, certain entrances to campus may be closed.  The main gate at 117th Street & Broadway will remain open.  For further updates on college operations, please check this website, call the College Emergency Information Line 212-854-1002 or check AM radio station 1010WINS.

Available Software

BCIT offers a range of site-licensed software that can be installed on Barnard-owned computers.  The current standard software package for a PC includes:

  • Windows 7
  • Microsoft Office 2010
  • Web browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Novell login client (for access to Artemis, the file server)
  • Adobe Creative Suite 6 (includes Reader, Acrobat, Photoshop, and more)

Applications available upon request include:

  • SPSS
  • Mathematica
  • EndNote
  • ArcGIS

If you need an application that Barnard does not have a site license for, please contact Purchasing to acquire a license.  BCIT can then assist you in installing the software once you have obtained it.

Some applications are available for faculty and staff to use on their personally-owned computers:

  • Microsoft Office: Our license agreement permits each faculty and staff member to use Office on one personally-owned computer.  Please contact the BCIT Service Desk if you need Office installed on your personal laptop.
  • Symantec Anti-Virus: Any member of the Columbia community can download this from the CUIT Software Center.
  • PCPhoneHome/MacPhoneHome: Any member of the Columbia community can download this from the CUIT Software Center.
  • EndNote: Any member of the Columbia community can download this from the CUIT Software Center.
