LEAD-TIME REQUIREMENTS
Short-term Usage (e.g., a few weeks, a training class, an event)
- Please provide the above information (via Service Desk ticket) a minimum of three (3) weeks before you need the software installed. This will provide BCIT with enough time to install the requested software. It is the responsibility of the requester to provide the requested software. BCIT is available for consultation on the software.
- BCIT will uninstall the software from each lab computer soon after the “no longer needed” date, after confirming with the faculty member that the software is no longer required.
- All labs are equipped with printers connected via the Columbia NINJa printing system. If other printing is required, then the Service Desk will need to know sufficiently in advance to arrange an alternative.
Long-term Usage (e.g., throughout the semester)
- Please provide the above information a minimum of four (4) weeks before the start of the semester. BCIT will ensure that the requested software is installed on each computer in the lab prior to the start of the semester.
- BCIT will uninstall the software from each lab computer after the semester is completed.
- All labs are equipped with printers connected via the Columbia NINJa printing system. If other printing is required, then the Service Desk will need to know sufficiently in advance to arrange an alternative.
SOFTWARE TESTING
- Once the software purchase is approved, ordered, and received, BCIT will install the software and verify that the software launches correctly.
- It is the responsibility of the requester to perform post-installation testing of the software, both itself and in conjunction with any other applications needed and the applications included in the BCIT lab image.
- Software not stated explicitly by the developer as being compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 operating system will be installed by BCIT only as best-effort.
- The requester is responsible for troubleshooting the program and confirming that it works as needed.
PROHIBITIONS
- Software that requires student administrative access to the computers cannot be installed.
- Any software causing instability or other issues on the computer, in the lab, or on the network is prohibited and will be uninstalled. BCIT will provide as much notice as possible to the requester before uninstalling the software.
- Any software installation and usage not in compliance with the Barnard Computer Use Policy is prohibited.
EXPECTATIONS FOR THE LAB ENVIRONMENT
- The Digital Training Lab and Lehman 18 do NOT require the users to have a Barnard or Columbia username and password.
- Sulzberger and Brooks lab DO require the users to have a Barnard or Columbia username and password.
- All labs are equipped with printers connected via the Columbia NINJa printing system. This requires the person printing to have a Columbia UNI.
- The Digital Training Lab and Lehman 18 both have an “instructor” computer connected to a projection system. Please contact BLAIS (http://library.barnard.edu/contact) for more information on using this system.
- None of the BCIT labs have sufficient power capacity for large-scale laptop deployment.
- The BCIT staff cannot assist during after-hour and weekend usage. Clients requesting lab space for weekend use should make sure to test the software, access, and configuration beforehand.
