Description
Founded in 1982, the Community Training and Resource Center (CTRC)is a champion of tenants' rights in New York City. We examine housing policy issues from a community framework, researching and analyzing the effects of the housing policies of the public, private and nonprofit sectors on neighborhoods, tenants and owners. We base our research, analysis, educational and training activities on our extensive community organizing expertise. We present our information in workshops, public forums, and publications. Housing preservation is central to our work: we are leading proponents of maintaining affordable housing for tenants in low and moderate-income neighborhoods. CTRC works as a team of seasoned organizers. Housing and community groups come to us for training, information, and technical assistance on housing issues. We have built a strong constituency of neighborhood leaders, City officials, academics and innovative donors, who look to us to be in the forefront of the struggle to preserve housing and neighborhoods for low-income New Yorkers. CTRC works city-wide with neighborhood housing groups and tenant associations, social service agencies serving the elderly, immigrants, the disabled, people with HIV/AIDS, single parent families, youth, and the homeless. The Community Training and Resource Center provides training and technical assistance to tenants who are the most affected by changing government policies, unsafe housing conditions and rising rents: children and families, senior citizens, and recent immigrants. We conduct workshops for housing groups and social service agencies that enable these agencies to meet the information and advocacy needs of the communities they serve.
