Samantha
Miller

Samantha's photo project, "Clouds don't look like
rabbits," confronts the idea that people create
arbitrary systems of meaning so that they may
comprehend their surroundings, as one might see
shapes in the clouds. The images Samantha uses were
captured from her many travels, from Zimbabwe to
Thailand, Peru to Mozambique, and India to Zanzibar.
With these photos she constructs her own systems of
meaning, merging together images that are often
contextually significant along with those that are
not. In this way, she overtly asserts her own
interpretation upon otherwise disconnected images.
Her photo exhibit, to be presented on 12 April,
8p.m. in the Postcrypt Art Gallery, invites viewers
to examine the images and deconstruct their meaning,
or rather, to engage consciously in the process of
ascribing meaning for the sake of comprehension. At
the exhibit's end, Samantha will provide a pamphlet
detailing the location, figures in the picture, and,
if any, the political context the picture carries.
She hopes you will come and see for yourself.
