1987-1988 Centennial Scholars

Nancy Appel's project was a re-examination of the trial of Leon Czolgosz, the assassin of President William McKinley.

Michelle Brody's research project was in neurophysiology: "The Mechanism of Action of Neural Transplant Restoration of Circadian Rythmicity: Neural or Hormonal?"

Julie Carr choreographed and performed an original dance composition with accompanying text.

Elisabeth Friedman's project was entitled "Using the Philosophical Implications of Quantum Mechanics to Attract Women to Physics."

Simone Kahn was the first student to graduate as a Centennial Scholar. Graduating magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with honors in Biochemistry, in January, 1988, she studied the efficacy of enzymes in altering low density lipoprotein (LDL).

Eve Leedham's project was entitled, "Illness as a Metaphor: the Influence of the Media on Attitudes Towards Herpes."

Joanne Mariner created a photographic essay on India and its people.

Stephanie Thomas wrote a collection of short stories set in Turkey; she used her stipend to study at Bosphorus University.
