Barnard Chemistry Summer 2009 Research Program

SUMMER RESEARCH POSITIONS in CHEMISTRY

Summer research in the Barnard Chemistry Department.  Barnard faculty work on their research in the summer, often involving students in their projects.  Typically 12-15 students have paid summer internships in the department, some funded by the college’s Hughes Science Pipeline Project, some with Bernice G. Segal Fellowships, and some supported on faculty research grants.  Housing is provided.

Faculty research talks on Friday, February 6, 2:00-4:00 PM (805 Altschul) provide an opportunity for prospective summer and thesis students to hear about our research and the opportunities for student involvement. We will also describe the summer application process.

In recent years, we have had many more applicants than we were able to accommodate.  Thus you are strongly encouraged to apply elsewhere too.

Summer internships away from Barnard.  Many colleges and universities have REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) programs sponsored by the NSF (National Science Foundation) or similar summer internship programs.  Rising seniors (those finishing their junior year) are often preferred, but many programs are also open to rising juniors and sophomores.  Posters about many programs are on the 8th floor of Altschul, central corridor.  Notices continue to arrive over the next months, so check back often.  WWW listings of many opportunities are maintained through the college’s Hughes program: (http://www.barnard.edu/hspp/Internship%20website/science_internships.htm). This can be accessed from the Chemistry Department web page.  Some application deadlines are as early as February 1, others are later.  Apply often, and good luck.
