Yes, with the exception of children under 2, all guests must have a ticket to attend.

Will there be accessible seating at Commencement?
The Barnard Commencement is wheelchair accessible. ODS will coordinate a disability seating section—and students may reserve one seat for the guest with a disability and one seat for an additional family member. The ceremony will be telecast from several video screens with excellent sight-lines from all locations. For more information, visit the Office of Disability Services website.

How do Barnard students obtain a cap and gown for graduation?
A cap and gown has been ordered, at no charge, for each Barnard student who is eligible to participate in Commencement and has RSVP’d for one or both ceremonies. Regalia is available for pickup at the Columbia Bookstore during regular business hours. Graduates should identify themselves as Barnard students, and bring their ID.

What is the difference between the Barnard Presentation of Degree Candidates and the University Commencement?
At the Barnard ceremony, Barnard graduates are individually recognized. Names are read and each student crosses the stage to shake President Spar’s hand. At the University ceremony, degrees are officially conferred en masse to graduating students from all of Columbia’s schools and affiliated institutions.

When do students receive their diploma?
Graduates may pick up their diploma after degrees have been conferred at the University Commencement on [date TBD]. Diplomas will be available on [date TBD] in Barnard Hall from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and thereafter at the Registrar’s Office. Diplomas not picked up within two or three weeks will be mailed to the address specified online by the student.

What is Baccalaureate and who can attend?
The Baccalaureate Service is an interfaith, intercultural service celebrating the completion of each University undergraduate’s academic career. Families and friends of undergraduate candidates are invited to attend. No tickets are required, although seating inside the chapel is limited. Caps and gowns are required for candidates.
