Ensuring Excellence at the College

Barnard parents give to Barnard because they understand the importance of their gifts in enhancing education and student life at the College. By generously supporting the College, Barnard parents—as well as alumnae and friends—enable Barnard to provide the highest quality liberal arts education to promising, high-achieving young women. 

A gift to the College has an immediate impact. Here’s a sampling of what annual gifts support:

• Day-to-day needs of the College. Parents' gifts help support our internationally renowned faculty and their scholarly research, faculty-student research collaborations, internships, and a vibrant campus life, including activities for every interest.
• Financial aid. One of every 2 students (51%) receives some form of financial aid. Annual Giving helps to ensure that the College will be able to admit students from diverse backgrounds and financial circumstances.
• The “hidden scholarship.”  Even students whose families pay full tuition receive a 31 percent subsidy of their education, when all costs are considered.

A Note From the Barnard Parents Council Chairs

Dear Barnard Parents,

We are delighted to support Barnard as the 2012-2013 Chairs of the Parents Council.  Our service as Council Chairs is but one expression of how grateful we are for the education our daughters have received.

Our two daughters, Gabrielle '12 and Grace '15, are so fortunate to have benefited from a Barnard education.  Gabrielle graduated this past spring.  She is now working - thanks to a great Barnard internship - and taking the next steps toward realizing her career goals.  As an alumna, she stays connected to her extensive Barnard network and tells us that she appreciates these connections and her years at Barnard more and more every day.

Grace, now a sophomore, takes full advantage of the rich curriculum and the extracurricular activities that the College has to offer.  Benefiting from Barnard's extensive liberal arts offerings, she has explored many subjects, including Philosophy - an area of study she never imagined would capture her interest when she arrived on campus.  Next year, she plans to study abroad.  Thanks to the guidance she has received from Career Development, she has had several meaningful work experiences.

Parents annual giving is essential to the College, ensuring that every student receives a superior education and graduates as a confident young woman.  Barnard's exceptional faculty, strong academic offerings, and campus life could not exist without the financial contributions of parents, alumnae, and other valued friends of the College.
