The Building
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Barnard trustee Diana T. Vagelos ’55 and her husband, Dr. P. Roy Vagelos, this landmark building has a name:The Diana Center.
There are still many exciting ways, including the opportunities described below, to be one of the most important benefactors in Barnard’s history.
Name the Special Events Space
This impressive room is one of the largest assembly spaces on campus and comfortably holds up to 500 people. It accommodates a wide range of programs, including public lectures, academic symposia, film screenings, dance performances, and gala dinners.
The elliptical space with its warm wood paneling, is fully equipped with digital audio-visual technology. The sprung floor is specially designed for use by dancers and other performing artists, and the acoustically perforated walls calibrate the sound within the space. The stage is equipped with a concealed curtain that can be drawn for special events..
This space is not only a destination for the Barnard community, but also for the residents of New York City, and for all visitors attending the conferences, artistic productions, and exciting events hosted there.

Name the Rooftop Pavilion or Patio
A beautiful green roof of natural vegetation supports energy conservation and light outdoor recreation. The Sibyl Levy Golden ’38 Ecological Learning Center allows students and faculty to do hands-on environmental research and easily share their discoveries with the Barnard community.
Still to be named is the Rooftop Pavilion – a gathering space available for relaxation and entertainment.
Also in need of a name is the Rooftop Patio – a spectacular space that runs the length of the roof and affords outstanding views of the campus and city.
The building’s creative design draws natural light from the roof into the rest of the building. With a Rooftop Pavilion and Patio, our community enjoys the innovation of the Diana, inside and out.

Contribute to the Millicent Carey McIntosh Fund
Millicent Carey McIntosh led Barnard with great success for a decade and a half, beginning in 1947. Six years into her tenure, she was named the College’s first president, but she was always “Mrs. Mac” to the students, faculty, staff and alumnae who loved and admired her. She will forever be remembered as an outspoken advocate for women’s equality and advancement.
Barnard continues to honor this great leader by designating the entry plaza to The Diana Center as The McIntosh Plaza. A special McIntosh Fund allows alumnae to acknowledge Mrs. Mac’s legacy in this new era for the College. Donors of at least $50,000 will be recognized on a special plaque near The Plaza.
Fund Study Carrels in the Achilles Reading Room
Study carrels in the sunlit Edith and Frances Achilles Memorial Reading Room offer the privacy of individual study spaces in the quiet company of classmates engaged in their own work.
Buying a study carrel for the Achilles Reading Room contributes to the best possible learning environment for our students. Each donor of a study carrel is recognized on a plaque in the reading room.
