PROGRAM PLANNING MEETINGS FOR THE FIRST-YEAR CLASS will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 12-1pm; and Wednesday, March 7, 5-6pm) in Lehman Auditorium (202 Altschul). At the meetings, Dean Hollibaugh will discuss important deadlines and information for advance program filing, L-course and lottery sign-ups, departmental program meetings, policies on summer courses, opportunities for next year, and more. All first-year students should plan to attend one of these meetings.
STUDY ABROAD: Representatives from the following schools and programs will be on the Barnard or Columbia campus in the next month to meet with interested students:

STUDENTS APPLYING TO HEALTH PROFESSIONS SCHOOLS: All students planning to apply to a health professions school this summer should have handed in their required forms by the February 1 deadline. If you have not, contact Dean Ani Bournoutian or Dean Adjua Starks-Allen in the Dean of Studies Office as soon as possible.
NEED FINANCIAL AID FOR 2008-2009? Applications are due Friday, April 18th. All documents can be downloaded or linked to from our website http://www.barnard.edu/finaid/. Click on "Application Procedures" and "Returning Students" and you will be connected to all required forms. There are also links to connect to and complete the Federal FAFSA form and the CSS PROFILE form on-line. Please note!! All materials should be sent in one packet by the deadline to College Board IDOC, PO Box 4017, Mt Vernon, Illinois 62864 and not to the Barnard Office of Financial Aid.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: All F-1 students who will be traveling outside the United States for spring break and whose I-20's have signatures older than six months must obtain a new signature prior to leaving the US. Dean Kuan Tsu, Dean Starks-Allen and Mr. Farrell in the Dean of Studies Office are authorized to sign I-20's. Seniors who are interested in working in the United States after graduation or any other F-1 students who wish to work off campus for the summer should make an appointment to see Dean Kuan Tsu as soon as possible to begin the application process for optional practical training.
FIGHT THE FLU WITH A FREE FLU SHOT! Flu season has arrived at Barnard, but it's not too late to protect yourself. Free flu shots are available for students in the Barnard Student Health Service from 9:30am to 11:30am Tuesday and Thursday. Just walk in. If you are not able to make these times, please call for an appointment. Students with chronic illnesses are especially encouraged to get a flu shot!
STUDENTS INTERESTED IN STUDYING ABROAD: As you begin to consider studying abroad, we encourage you to obtain a passport if you do not already have one. To start the process, visit the U.S. Department of State Passport Information website at http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html. International students should speak with Dean Kuan Tsu or Dean Starks-Allen about the impact of study abroad on your visa.
HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE LISTENING HOURS? The Furman Counseling Center is offering evening residence hall walk-in sessions. No appointment necessary. Maybe academic and competitive pressures are stressing you out, or you need to talk out roommate or relationship issues, or financial concerns are weighing on you, or you don’t have a place to talk about race on campus, or you’re graduating and don’t know what you want to do next year, or you don’t know what’s bothering you but you think something is. Drop by one of our Listening Hours and we’ll help you sort it out. New workshops also to be offered through the Listening Hours this semester. Listening Hours are open to all Barnard students. They are held on Tuesdays in Plimpton Hall, 7-9:30pm, and Thursdays in Elliott Hall, 7-9:30pm.
BARNARD HEALTH SERVICES SPRING BREAK NOTICE: The Barnard College Student Health Service will be closed for clinical care during Spring Break, March 17th--March 21st. The Health Service will be open for administrative purposes only during the break, from 9am until 4:30pm. Barnard students will have access to Columbia University Health Services during the break for urgent care needs only. Call Health Services at Columbia at (212) 854-7426 for information. Additionally, the Emergency Clinician-On-Call will be available 24/7 during Spring Break for telephone emergency medical advice at (866) 966-7788. Emergency Room visits must be authorized by the Clinician-On-Call in order to activate the Barnard Student Medical Insurance.
