PROGRAM PLANNING MEETINGS FOR THE FIRST-YEAR CLASS will be held on Tuesday, October 28 (12-1pm) and Wednesday, October 29 (5:30-6:30pm) in Held Auditorium (304 Barnard Hall). At the meetings, Dean Hollibaugh will outline the procedures for advance program filing for the spring semester and go over important information such as upcoming deadlines, L-course and lottery sign-ups, departmental program meetings, and more. All first-year students are required to attend one of these meetings.

PROGRAM PLANNING MEETINGS FOR THE SOPHOMORE CLASS: Deans Christina Kuan Tsu and Ani Bournoutian have scheduled Program Planning meetings for sophomores on Monday, October 27, 5-6pm, and Thursday, October 30, 12-1pm. Both meetings will be in Held Auditorium (304 Barnard Hall). Sophomores should attend one of these meetings.

TUTORING AVAILABLE: Forms to request a peer tutor in certain biology, chemistry, math, economics, and language courses are available in the Dean of Studies Office. Tutoring will be provided in small groups (2-3 students) once a week for an hour. If you need a tutor for CHEM BC2001 (General Chemistry I), CHEM BC3231 (Organic Chemistry II), or PHYS V1201 (General Physics), you should go to the tutoring help rooms that have been established for these courses. More information is available in the Dean of Studies Office.

FREEMAN-ASIA AWARDS of up to $7,000 are available for students participating in undergraduate study abroad programs in East and Southeast Asia. The deadline for Spring 2009 is Wednesday, October 15, 2008.

INAUGURATION OF PRESIDENT SPAR will be on Thursday, October 23, beginning at 2pm at The Riverside Church. Barnard classes on Thursdays between 1 and 5pm will be cancelled that day. We hope that you’ll attend this historic event.

PSYCHOLOGY LAB LOTTERY: In order to enroll in a Psychology Department lab or statistics course for the 2009 spring semester, you must participate in the Department lottery on eBear, from Sunday, November 2, until 11pm on Sunday, November 9. 2009 HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP: The process of selecting candidates will begin soon. The Truman Foundation is seeking juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the non-profit or advocacy sectors, education, or elsewhere in public service. The Foundation provides significant financial support for graduate study and leadership training. THE BEINECKE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM generously funds graduate school study for highly motivated juniors who are US citizens and on financial aid and who are interested in pursuing graduate school in the humanities, social sciences, or the arts. The College may submit one nominee for consideration. Please call the Dean of Studies Office to schedule an appointment with Dean Runsdorf.

LISTENING HOURS OPEN: The Furman Counseling Center is offering evening residence hall walk-in sessions. No appointment necessary. Whether election season politics have got you worried, or academic and competitive pressures are stressing you out, or you are new to Barnard and New York and feel lost, or need a place to talk out roommate or relationship issues, or financial concerns are weighing on you, or you just don’t know what’s bothering you but you think something is. Drop by one of our Listening Hours and we’ll help you sort it out. Listening Hours are open to all Barnard students. They are held on Tuesdays in Plimpton Hall, 7-9:30pm, and Thursdays in Elliott Hall, 7-9:30pm.

FREE FLU SHOTS are available for students in the Barnard Student Health Service, 9:30-11:30am, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Just walk in. If you are not able to make these times, please call for an appointment. Students with chronic illnesses are especially encouraged to get a flu shot!
