French Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate, Lycée Français de NY
At the present time, the equivalent of one year of Barnard credit is granted for the French Baccalaureate. For the International Baccalaureate diploma, the number of credits listed is granted, up to a maximum of 30. Students who do not have the diploma will receive 6 Barnard points for each Higher Level examination score of 5 or higher.
Examinations and individual courses for the Baccalaureate cannot ordinarily be used to satisfy Barnard requirements. (Exception: Students with a French Baccalaureate diploma in math and science have satisfied the Quantitative and Deductive Reasoning requirement. Students with International Baccalaureate scores of 5 or higher in Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics have satisfied the Quantitative and Deductive Reasoning requirement. Students with International Baccalaureate scores of 5 or higher in Biology or Chemistry have satisfied part of the lab science requirement.
British Advanced Level Examinations
Each A-level or A2-level grade is individually evaluated. No credit is given for O-level or AS-level examinations. Credit from Foreign Schools
Credit from a foreign school unaffiliated with the College, although counted toward the degree, is not computed into the Barnard average. (Students with foreign credits may require slightly higher GPA's to qualify for general honors. See Honors section in this guide.) Courses from foreign schools may be used to satisfy requirements, but only with the approval of the appropriate departments.
English as Foreign Language
English may be considered a student's foreign language after she has completed one year at Barnard, if it was not the language of instruction in her high school. |
