CETE: The Consortium for Excellence in Teacher Education

Barnard is a member of CETE, an association of teacher education programs in selective, private liberal arts colleges and universities. Because CETE members advocate high "standards without standardization" we also endorse multiple pathways to teacher preparation, and each of our institutions has a distinctive thematic emphasis. CETE institutions share a commitment to a humanistic, inquiry-oriented approach to teacher education.  Many CETE institutions also share the working assumption that "small is beautiful" especially in the development and nurturance of a community of reflective practitioners. Members of CETE include Brown, Harvard, Princeton, Wellesley, Bates, Bryn Mawr & Haverford, Middlebury, Smith, Wheaton, Bowdoin, Connecticut, Mount Holyoke, Swarthmore, Yale, Brandeis, Darthmouth, UPENN and Vassar.
