SCHEDULING CHANGES:

  • "Essay Writing" (BC 3103), section 1, being taught by Aaron Schneider will now meet from 12:10-2 p.m. on Thursdays instead of the  earlier hour originally posted.

  • "Introduction to Poetry Writing" (BC 3110), being taught by Sean Singer, has been changed to Thursday 6:10-8 p.m. instead of Tuesday.

BC 3120: Creative Non-Fiction: Journalism is now being offered in the fall as well as the spring.

DEADLINE to apply for Fall '08 creative writing courses or to be a Creative Writing Concentrate
was the last day of the program filing period  (April 28th, 2008.)  It will be November 25, 2008 for spring 2009 courses.  If you have questions about either, please contact the Director of the program, Prof. Timea Szell - tszell(at)barnard(dot)edu.

General Information:

The Columbia Daily Spectator

announces English as the most currently popular major at Barnard and commends the department for offering the most concerned and helpful advising program.  Of their 11 "Great Courses," three are offered by the Barnard English Department: Jennie Kassanoff’s American Fiction, Bashir Abu-Manneh’s Cultures of Colonialism, and Mary Gordon’s writing classes.

  • Clearing out shelves?  Looking for something to read?  The Barnard English department has a BOOK SWAP.  It is located in the bookcase at the southern end of the main corridor on the fourth floor of Barnard hall.  Come browse or unload your old books.
     

  • Join the English Department Listserv!  Get announcements about department events, course registration, and more.  To sign up, send an email to english(at)barnard(dot)edu with the subject "subscribe english-l".  Include your name and affiliation (student, alumna, faculty, or interested member of the public.)
