The New York Blood Center, the Class of 2012 and the Office of Disability Services (ODS) invite all members of the community to come to our Winter Blood Drive on Friday, February 4 from 10:30am-3:45pm in the LeFrak Gym. As always, this is a drop-in mini-drive where no appointments are needed--so please feel free to come at any time from 10:30am - 3:45pm. Please know that the recent NYC snow storms have created a blood emergency--with 1600 units of blood lost from last week's snow cancelations and 8000 donations lost in the past six weeks from the severe winter weather!
Donors should be in general good health, 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated in the last 56 days. If you donated at the Sept 2010 drive, you are absolutely eligible to come and join us again--and we hope to see you! Please remember to bring your CUID (or any photo ID) when you come-- and please call ODS @ 212/854-4634 if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you at LeFrak on Friday.
In response to concerns from our community regarding hosting an event that falls under the US Food and Drug Administration's permanent ban on blood donations from gay men--a policy many scientists including Barnard faculty label outdated or obsolete--the sponsors of the Blood Drive, in conjunction with Barnard's LGBT/Queer community, have organized a table with informational resources and opportunities to get involved in this issue. If you would like to volunteer for this table, please contact ods@barnard.edu.
