Are you interested in entrepreneurship?
Curious about starting a company?
Have an idea but not sure what to do with it?
Come to the CVC On-Campus Social. There will be:
* Lots of fellow Columbia & Barnard students/alums interested in entrepreneurship/tech/startups
Meet other people with ideas and learn about startups.
* Guest speaker:
We're excited to have Anna Curran, a senior member of the PlumAlley.co team. She has extensive background in the startup world with Start Up Weekend and the Kaufmann Foundation. She is also a CEO and founder of Cook Book Create.
Anna will speak about Plum Alley, how she made the move from Goldman Sachs investment banker to startups, and discuss steps you can take to break into the startup world.
* You’re guaranteed to meet a ton of people through a simple and not-at-all cheesy game (more below)
Our promise: Within an hour, a room of strangers will turn into a room of familiar faces.
We'll be using a game/service called Cnvrge and run everything using the miracle of text messaging. It'll make intros for you - like the world's greatest party host.
When you arrive, you'll check in via SMS, and immediately get a text telling you who to meet next, and where in the room to meet them. Five minutes later, you'll get another text. Infinite loop.
You can skip rounds if you want to keep chatting with someone, and jump back into the “pool” when you want to get a text and meet a new person. With each meeting, you can rest assured you'll automatically get an intro email (complete with the other person's bio and round in which you met) so don't sweat the business cards...unless yours is bone white with Silian Rail font. Bring those. Come with a fully charged cell phone (that can accept text messages) and be ready to socialize!
FULL DETAILS:
* Location: Student Dining Room (2nd floor Diana Center @ the SW corner of 119th/Broadway).
* Please arrive around 6pm.
* Please feel free to bring a guest (doesn't have to be a Columbia/Barnard student).
