If you have ever read the copy that accompanies Groupon offers, you already know that writing for Groupon requires the ability to call up one's inner quirk. This is a quality for which Barnard students have a particular affinity.
Amanda Nyren, editorial recruiter, will be on campus with her colleague, Megan Green, Wednesday, April 20 from 5:30 t0 6:30 p.m. They are looking for fresh talent to join their full-time, in-house editorial team, located in Chicago. They will also offer tips and answer questions with regard to general job-hunting. Join Amanda and Megan for this open session. Amanda writes, "Our full-time, entry-level opportunities include researching, writing, and factchecking."
Here's a sample of recent copy for an offer:
"Magazines don't just hold coffee tables in place; they also serve as handy reminders of your dentist's address. Procure publications honestly with today's Groupon: for $12, you get a 6-issue, one-year subscription to the Boston Review (a $25 value).
For 35 years, the nonpartisan Boston Review has stimulated readers with eye-opening essays on everything from politics and economics to arts and literature. Editors eschew polemic adherence to ideology in favor of tightly reasoned, thoroughly supported arguments from a diverse pool of perspectives. The independent, nonprofit institution thrives on its unique combination of in-depth political analysis and serious literary criticism, making mere political journals and literary quarterlies toss and turn all night with the nagging sense that something is missing."
Come learn more about Groupon editorial openings at an open session Wednesday, April 20 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in BCD Library, 2nd Floor, Elliot Hall. Recruiters will be happy to field general job-hunting questions as well. Check out their job postings at http://www.groupon.com/jobs.
