Gail Archer, director of the Barnard music program, moderates a discussion about the rewards and challenges of composing and staging performances of new music by women. Panelists include Marie Incontrera, self-described “composer, wayward pianist, and heavy-metal ballerina”; Faye-Ellen Silverman ’68, whose works include the opera The Miracle of Nemirov; and Rain Worthington, president of New York Women Composers. Barnard students round out the evening with a performance of chamber music written by all three women, as well as Incontrera’s opera At the Other Side of the Earth.
