Psychoanalysis & Our Time

A lecture by Eric Laurent
Thursday, September 29
7 PM
Julius Held Auditorium, 304 Barnard Hall

How does psychoanalysis—a treatment made one by one, subject by subject—reject aspects of the protocols of evidence-based medicine and psychiatry? How might analysis act as a refuge against consumerism for both the individual and culture? In this fascinating lecture, Professor Éric Laurent considers these questions and more as he examines the complex roles that psychoanalysis plays in our cultural moment. Éric Laurent is former president of the World Association of Psychoanalysis, the most important of the Lacanian psychoanalytic societies, and a professor in the department of psychoanalysis at the University of Paris 8. He has published in a large number of journals, particularly in psychoanalytic journals such as Lacanian Ink and Psychoanalytic Notebooks, and is the author of Lost in Cognition.
