Christopher Baswell

Ann Whitney Olin Professor of English

Christopher Baswell first joined Barnard’s faculty in 1984, and he taught here until 2000. From 2000 until 2008 he taught at UCLA, where he was a Professor of English and the Associate Director of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. In 2008, he returned to Barnard where he is now the Ann Whitney Olin Professor of English.
He is also a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.

His many honors and fellowships include Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Centre for Medieval Studies at University of York, a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, and the 1995 Beatrice White Prize of the English Association for the best publication in a field before 1560. He also was a National Humanities Center Fellow.

Professor Baswell specializes in medieval literature and manuscript studies, classical tradition, and disability studies.
