James Crapotta

James Crapotta joined the Barnard faculty in 1975. In addition to his teaching duties for the Department of Spanish and Latin American Cultures, he is affiliated with Barnard's Comparative Literature program.

Dr. Crapotta is the author of Kingship and Tyranny in the Theater of Guilln de Castro and coauthor of Facetas: Conversación y Redacción. He has also written articles on Golden Age theatre and language pedagogy. He writes monthly video-viewing materials for Spanish TV-Magazine and is the video/film review editor for the Northeast Conference Newsletter.

Besides coordinating the basic language sequence, he also teaches "Advanced Oral and Written Spanish," "An Introduction to Spanish Theater," "Special Issues in Contemporary Spain," and two courses--one in Spanish and one in English--on gay and lesbian representations in Hispanic literature and film. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

His current work consists of preparing Web-based communicative materials for the teaching of Spanish.
