Katie Glasner
Senior Associate in Dance
Assistant Chair of the Department of Dance
Katie Glasner, Senior Associate in Dance and Assistant Chair of the Department of Dance, joined the Barnard faculty in 1998.
In a teaching career spanning more than two decades, Ms. Glasner has worked with students at Wesleyan, Penn State, Princeton, and New York Universities, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Princeton Ballet School and its affiliate professional company, American Repertory Ballet Company, Ballet Hispanico, and American Ballet Theater II.
Her own training in dance was at North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as well as in the studios of many leading dance teachers in New York City.
Ms. Glasner danced nationally and internationally with the Twyla Tharp Dance Company from 1977 to 1987. Her professional performance credits also include film work (Hair and Amadeus), television (Confessions of a Corner Maker and Scrapbook), and Broadway (Singin' in the Rain).
Ms. Glasner has choreographed such musicals as The King and I at the Brunswick Theater and The Sound of Music at Theater-By-The-Sea in Matunuck, Rhode Island. She has also co-choreographed a number of productions for the Princeton Ballet School.
Recently, Ms. Glasner has staged Twyla Tharp’s classic Eight Jelly Rolls for dancers at Barnard College, George Mason University, Duke University, and the Fieldston School. Links for reviews from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal are posted below.
She has directed Barnard's Summer Dance Study and has also taught in the College's pre-college program.
She serves as a dance adjudicator for the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival.
