Ayten GÜndoĞdu

Assistant Professor of Political Science

Ayten Gündoğdu, assistant professor of political science, joined Barnard’s faculty in 2008.  She has previously taught at Bogazici University and the University of Minnesota. At Barnard she teaches courses on political theory and human rights.

Professor Gündoğdu’s research has centered on the precarious condition of non-citizens in the current international order, drawing on and reinterpreting the work of twentieth-century political theorist Hannah Arendt. Other research interests include critical approaches to human rights, problems of citizenship, democratic theory, and international ethics.

She has been the recipient of the Sawyer Dissertation Fellowship on Humanitarianisms and World Orders from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and a MacArthur Fellowship.
