Paul Scolieri
Assistant Professor of
Dance

Paul Scolieri, assistant professor of dance, joined the faculty of Barnard in 2003. In addition to his teaching duties for the department of dance, Professor Scolieri serves on the faculty advisory committee of Barnard's Africana studies program.
Professor Scolieri's primary areas of research and teaching include world dance studies; Latin American and Caribbean dance history; performance theory; dance politics and policy; and movement analysis.
He is currently completing a manuscript entitled Dances of Death: Aztec Ritual and Colonial Discourse, a study of the relationship between choreography and historiography in the conquest of the Americas.
Professor Scolieri's writings have appeared in the Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance; Women and Performance: A Journal of Feminist Theory; Dance Research Journal; and TDR: The Journal of Performance Studies.
He serves on the board of directors of Congress on Research in Dance and on the editorial board for Women and Performance. He is also a member of the board of World Dance Alliance: Americas.
