Barnard Physical Education Requirement
- All Barnard students must complete 2 semesters of Physical Education.
- One semester must be passed in the first year and the requirement must be completed by the end of the junior year.
- Failure to complete the requirement by the specified deadlines will result in a failing grade.
- Sophomore and junior transfers are required to complete one semester of Physical Education by the end of their senior year.
- Physical Education courses are graded pass/fail based on attendance and participation.
- Students who have fulfilled their Physical Education requirement may take classes for no credit, space permitting.

Why a Lottery for Physical Education?
The number of students seeking admission to Physical Education courses exceeds available spaces. Therefore, the Department has designed a computerized lottery to ensure the fairest placement possible for all eligible students. Assignment in a course is randomly determined by the computer based on your choices; this process is not 'first-come, first-served.' Once lottery results are given, students must add the course to their on-line program.
