Dean for International and Intercultural Student Programs
Dean Young came to Barnard in 2008 as the Dean for Study Abroad, and became the Dean for International and Intercultural Student Programs in 2013. She advises students as they determine whether, where and how they should study abroad, and helps students to incorporate their study abroad experience into their overall Barnard education – both practically and theoretically. She oversees international student orientation and the management of the Office of International and Intercultural Student Programs as a direct report to the Dean of the College. She also advises first-year, sophomore and all four-year international students. Dean Young earned her BA in International Politics and Economics and an MA in French, both from Middlebury College. She spent her own junior year of undergraduate studies in France studying at Reid Hall, the University of Paris X at Nanterre and L'Institut d'Etudes Politiques. Dean Young has spent 8 years living and working in Africa. She has traveled extensively around that continent and the world. Dean Young began her international career as a Teacher Trainer for the Peace Corps in Madagascar. She was later named Country Director of the School for International Training's study abroad programs in Madagascar, Senegal and South Africa. She came to us from the University of Connecticut's Office of Study Abroad.

Mark Farrell joined the Office of International and Intercultural Student Programs from the Dean of Studies Office in November 2013, where he helped support international students for many years.
Graduate Assistant for International and Intercultural Student Programs

Sarah Rosenthal started working in the Office of International and Intercultural Student Programs as a Graduate Assistant in August 2013. She is currently in her second year at Teachers College, Columbia University for a Master of Arts degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education. Prior to coming to Barnard she worked for Kaplan Test Prep and her alma mater, Muhlenberg College. In the spring semester of 2009 she studied abroad at the University of Cape Town with the CIEE: Arts & Sciences program. Upon graduation from Teachers College in May 2015 she hopes to continue in international education programs.
