REIMAGINING LEADERSHIP AT BARNARD COLLEGE

The Athena Global Leadership Institute at Barnard College is an intensive, two-week residential summer program that provides leadership development for female college students from around the globe. Living and studying alongside other young women from diverse countries and backgrounds, students will participate in academic simulations, in-depth discussions of women’s issues, and skill-building workshops. They will meet inspiring women leaders, explore New York City, an international center of art, culture and commerce, and participate in optional community service projects. Program components include:

  • An historical simulation on women’s rights and suffrage set in New York, designed to teach leadership skills—speaking, writing, critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork.
  • Readings and discussions of contemporary issues affecting women across the world, including healthcare, economic development, legal rights and governance, violence against women, and education.
  • Interactive workshops on communications, negotiations, financial fluency, and resilience.
  • Meetings with inspiring women leaders who are improving the lives of women and girls in New York City and across the world.
