Housing

Leaving College Housing

IF YOU WILL BE STUDYING ABROAD IN THE FALL (OR FOR THE FULL YEAR)

If you selected on-campus housing for the upcoming academic year, your room assignment will be automatically cancelled once you submit the Notice of Study Leave (NSL) form through eBear.  There is no need to fill out a Housing Cancellation form.

Please contact your roommates/suitemates to let them know of your Study Abroad plans.  Another student will be assigned to the space you vacated (i.e. someone from the Wait List, a new transfer student, etc).

IF YOU WILL BE STUDYING ABROAD IN THE SPRING

If you are currently living in on-campus housing for the Fall, your Spring housing assignment will be automatically cancelled once you submit the Notice of Study Leave (NSL) form through eBear.  There is no need to fill out a Housing Cancellation form.

Please note that you will need to check out of your room by the end of the Fall semester (i.e. start of Winter Break).  Students who are studying abroad for the Spring are ineligible to apply for Winter Break Housing.

Please inform your roommates/suitemates of your Study Abroad plans as soon as possible, so they can arrange to recruit someone to fill your spot through the December Room Change Process or by applying for Spring housing (i.e. someone returning from a Fall Study Abroad, etc).  They will need to fill out and submit a Roommate/Suitemate Request Form by December 1.  If your roommates/suitemates do not recruit a specific person, a student will be assigned at random to the space you vacate (i.e. someone returning from a Fall Study Abroad, a new Spring Transfer student, etc.).

If you have any questions, please contact Residential Life & Housing at housing@barnard.edu or visit http://barnard.edu/reslife/.

Returning to College Housing

Fall Semester

If you wish to live in on-campus housing (either at Barnard or CU), you must submit the Return from Spring Study Abroad Housing Form (PDF), no later than March 1, to the Residential Life & Housing office.  On this form, you will designate a Proxy who will be able to register you for Room Selection and pick a room for you.

Note: even if you plan on living in CU Greek Housing, Special Interest Housing, applying for a Disability Housing Accomodation, being a RA- or ODS pull-in, etc.; you must submit the Return from Spring Study Abroad Housing Form (PDF), no later than March 1, in order to be eligible for housing.

Note: you must have been residing in on-campus housing for the semester prior to your study abroad leave in order to be eligible to participate in Room Selection, be a RA or ODS pull-in, or be assigned to CU Greek or Special Interest housing.

If you do not have a Proxy select a room for you and wish later to apply for housing (or were not eligible to participate in Room Selection), please submit the Housing Application form (PDF) no later than June 1 in order to be on the Non-Guaranteed Wait List. Please note that while Residential Life & Housing will make every effort to provide a room assignment, housing is not guaranteed for students who do not take part in the Room Selection process.
