AMERICAN FELLOWSHIPS

AAUW provides funds to advance education, research, and self-development for women and to foster equity and positive change.

1. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH LEAVE FELLOWSHIP

Award: $30,000

Provides fellowships in the arts and humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. One is designated for a woman from an underrepresented group in any field.

2. SUMMER/SHORT-TERM RESEARCH PUBLICATION GRANTS

Supports women college and university faculty and independent researchers to prepare research for publication. Scholars with strong publishing records should seek other funding.

AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EDUCATION

FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The ACE Fellows spend an extended period of time on another campus, working directly with presidents and other senior leaders to observe how they address strategic planning, resource allocation, development, policy, and other issues and challenges.

This program is for scholars in the humanities to conduct research in the People’s Republic of China.

AMERICAN PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY - LEWIS AND CLARK FUND FOR EXPLORATION AND FIELD RESEARCH

Seeks to increase the presence of minority junior faculty members, and other faculty members committed to eradicating racial disparities, in core fields in the arts and sciences.

BOGLIASCO FOUNDATION - LIGURIA STUDY CENTER RESIDENCES (LIGURIA, ITALY)

Supports advanced creative work or scholarly research in the following disciplines: archaeology, architecture, classics, dance, film or video, history, literature, music, philosophy, theatre, and visual arts. COUNCIL FOR INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE OF SCHOLARS (CIES) - FULBRIGHT SENIOR SPECIALISTS PROGRAM

2. SUMMER GERMAN STUDIES SEMINAR

Supports participation in a group seminar on current German society and culture. Participants will examine the political, social and economic institutions of Germany. Each seminar has a specific thematic focus. The program, which lasts three weeks, will begin in Berlin and includes visits to other cities in eastern and western Germany. This year, the program will be conducted in German.

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION OF AMERICA

Supports research on the environment, human overpopulation and reproductive freedom, Native Americans, the arts, education, medicine, and human services. Applicants should submit letters of intent prior to applying for grants.

FLETCHER FELLOWSHIP

Amount: $50,000

Fellowships are awarded to scholars, writers, and artists whose work contributes to improving race relations in American society and furthers the broad social goals of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education.

J. PAUL GETTY TRUST

1. POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

Deadline: November 1, 2008
Award: $22,000 stipend for a 12-month period (non-residential)

Supports outstanding scholars in the early stages of their careers to pursue interpretative research projects on topics that make a substantial and original contribution to the understanding of art and its history. Fellowships are reserved for scholars of all nationalities whose have received their doctoral degree no earlier than 1999. Candidates who hold doctorates outside of art history are eligible to apply if they can demonstrate that their work promises to make a substantial and original contribution to the discipline of art history.

2. COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH GRANTS

Deadline: November 1, 2008
Award: Varies (nonresidential)

Provides opportunities for teams of scholars to pursue interpretative research projects that offer new explanations of art and its history. Teams may consist of two or more art historians, or of an art historian and one or more scholars from other disciplines. Eligible costs include salary replacement, travel, research assistants, and limit funds for research materials.

SCHOOL OF AMERICAN RESEARCH - RESIDENT SCHOLAR PROGRAM

Award: An apartment, office, and a $40,000 stipend

For 6 scholars who have completed their research and need time to prepare manuscripts on topics important to the understanding of humankind, including critical contemporary issues. Focused on anthropology but also open to related fields such as history, sociology, art and philosophy. Located in Santa Fe, NM.

HUNTINGTON RESEARCH ORGANIZATION

The Huntington is an independent research center with holdings in British and American history, literature, art history, and the history of science and medicine. NATIONAL ACADEMY OF EDUCATION / SPENCER FOUNDATION - POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS

Award: $55,000 for 1 year, or $27,500 each for 2 years

Promotes scholarship on matters relevant to the improvement of education in all its forms. Open to scholars in the humanities, social sciences and behavioral sciences.
