The American Chemical Society recently announced its 2012 Fellows, including Prof. Sally Chapman, a beloved member of Barnard's faculty for 37 years who passed away on June 2, 2012 after a 10-month battle with cancer.
In addition to her esteemed career as a physical chemist, Prof. Chapman devoted much of her professional life to the ACS. For a decade, she served on the ACS committee on Professional Training, which sets standards for undergraduate chemical education. She served as the committee's chair for three years. She was also on the advisory board of the ACS Petroleum Research Fund, the ACS' main grants arm, for 10 years including three as chair. Read more about Prof. Chapman's accomplishments on the ACS website.
Visit the College's remembrance page for Prof. Chapman. Colleagues, students and friends are also invited to share their thoughts and memories here.
