Named on the "The List of the Top Ten Dance Colleges," Barnard's Dance Program was recognized for courses that "span a broad spectrum of academic and technical subjects, including bio-mechanical theory, world dance history, dance criticism, and modern ballet."
The College's renowned Department of Dance offers an interdisciplinary program that integrates the study of dance within a liberal arts setting of intellectual and creative exploration. Recently, The New York Times featured Sarah Chien ’10 and other alums of the Department in their performance with Jody Sperling/Time Lapse Dance.
Prof. Mary Cochran, a former soloist with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, is the Department's chair and artistic director.
