Weather Update

Due to the storm, Barnard College closed at 4pm Friday, for non-essential personnel. “Essential personnel" include staff in Facilities, Public Safety and Residence Halls.  

Friday evening and weekend classes are cancelled but events are going forward as planned unless otherwise noted. The Athena Film Festival programs are also scheduled to go forward as planned but please check http://athenafilmfestival.com/ for the latest information. 

The Barnard Library and Archives closed at 4pm Friday and will remain closed on Saturday, Feb. 9.  The Library will resume regular hours on Sunday opening at 10am.  

Please be advised that due to the conditions, certain entrances to campus may be closed.  The main gate at 117th Street & Broadway will remain open.  For further updates on college operations, please check this website, call the College Emergency Information Line 212-854-1002 or check AM radio station 1010WINS.

CARE President Helene Gayle '76 discusses women's issues on PBS

PBS Correspondent Judy Woodruff interviewed CARE President and CEO Helene Gayle '76, former First Lady Laura Bush and Melinda Gates of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, for a special report on issues facing girls and women around the world.  The story aired during the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day.

Helene D. Gayle is president and CEO of CARE USA. An expert on health, global development and humanitarian issues, she spent 20 years with the Centers for Disease Control, working primarily on HIV/AIDS. Dr. Gayle then worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, directing programs on HIV/AIDS and other global health issues.

Dr. Gayle chairs the Obama Administration's Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS, and serves on the President's Commission on White House Fellowships. Named one of Foreign Policy magazine's "Top 100 Global Thinkers," Newsweek's top 10 "Women in Leadership" and the Wall Street Journal's "50 Women to Watch," as well as one of the "100 Most Influential Atlantans" and the "100 Most Influential Georgians," Dr. Gayle has published numerous scientific articles and been featured by media outlets like the New York Times, Washington Post, ForbesWoman, Glamour, O magazine, National Public Radio and CNN.
