Barnard students don’t need to venture too far from campus to study the environment. Throughout the academic year in the laboratory course, "Introductory Environmental Science,” students are able to investigate the interplay between rapid urban development and their surroundings. Experiments take them beyond Barnard’s gates to the nearby Hudson River and the waste treatment located at West 125th Street, where they test the effects of combined sewer overflow and waste-treatment operations. Ultimately, the students will use their research to advise about future development along the Hudson.
