Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently named incoming first year student Angelica Modabber '16 among the NYC Literary Honorees. This new awards program celebrates great writers whose work is informed by New York City, and highlights the publishing industry's important role in the city's economy.
A senior at the NYC iSchool, Modabber has won national writing awards through Scholastic, co-written articles for the Daily News, broadcasted videos for the PBS website, and voiced the opinions of public high schools students through her segment on the Gotham Schools blog. She is also the founder and editor of her school newspaper.
In this inaugural year of the NYC Literary Honors, Modabber was the sole student honoree, recognized alongside luminaries including author Paul Auster and biographer Robert Caro. Read more about this honor in The New York Times and the NYC Literary Honors website.
