May 2012 ODS Newsletter
Happy last-day-of-classes to all (4/30)--and welcome to the SP'12 Reading Period! All of us in ODS wish you the best on your remaining coursework and tests--and we'll see many of you in the coming week during final exams from Fri 5/4-Thur 5/10. If you need some fresh ideas for places to study or find peace and quiet--please stop by ODS to pick up a copy of *47 Places to Relax and Revive in Morningside Heights*.
ODS Free Massage Day!
As ODS veterans know--this is one of our most popular events: a day to take a break and do something nice for yourself by having a 30-min free massage with Barnard 's own Chenita Townsend, LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist). Chenita will be available this Wed 5/2 from 10am-5pm in the FIT-Bear Room, tunnel level Barnard Hall--by appointment only. Sign-ups must be *in-person* in ODS beginning at 10am tomorrow (Tue 5/1)--first-come first-served so please come by early to get your spot on the massage table!
Senior Exit Interviews
Just a reminder to all graduating seniors to call Susan L to set up your Senior Exit Interview (15-20min) with either Okie (LD/ADD students) or Susan Q (all others). These brief mtgs are very helpful in letting us know what things have been helpful during your time at Barnard--and also can assist us with new services or ideas for the future. Thanks in advance for taking the time to talk with us--and congratulations once again on your graduation!
DARA: Disability Access Recognition Awards
Thinking back on the past semester--has there been a member of our community (faculty, student or staff) who has been especially supportive, understanding and/or creative in working with you and responding to your disability-related needs? If so, please nominate them for a DARA! All we need from you is a simple email with your name, the name of the nominee and the reason for nomination: "I would
like to nominate this individual for an access award because..."
E-Mentors
Calling all students who would like to serve as an ODS peer mentor in the coming academic year! During the summer, we will be sending *Welcome to Barnard* emails to all new self-identified members of the Class of 2016--and we include the first name and email address of a current student with a disability (E-Mentor) who the new student can be in touch with online re: any questions she may have about ODS and Barnard. We need E-Mentors in all disability categories--and although it's a very minimal time commitment--it is also a wonderful way to welcome new students with disabilities to our community. Please email squinby@barnard and ods@barnard if interested--and thanks!
