Create Dangerously: The Immigrant Artist at Work, an essay collection by acclaimed author and Barnard alumna Edwidge Danticat '90, has been selected by "One Book, One Philadelpia," a program intended to promote reading, literacy and libraries, and to encourage the entire greater Philadelphia area to come together through reading and discussing a single book. From The Philadelphia Inquirer:
"We try to select books that are conducive to creative, stimulating classroom programming," says Marie Field, chair of One Book, One Philadelphia, "and this book is - it's a little book that touches on a lot of important topics."
In Create Dangerously, Danticat reflects on her native Haiti as well as art and exile, examining what it means to be an immigrant artist from a country in crisis. On October 21, Barnard's Africana Studies Program will welcome Danticat as the first speaker in its Distinguished Alumna series. Visit the event page for more information.
