Prof. Katie Glasner named 2012 Dance Teacher of the Year for Higher Ed

Dance Teacher Magazine has awarded the 2012 Dance Teacher of the Year Award in Higher Education to Prof. Katie Glasner, senior associate and assistant chair in Barnard's department of dance. An excerpt:

"[Glasner] knows the realities of professional life. It’s why her classroom isn’t just a technique lesson, but a place to discover how dance fits into an individual’s goals. Glasner sees the potential in each student and feels that she deserves the highest level of training, regardless of whether that young woman will become a professional dancer, an arts historian or a patron."

A member of Barnard's faculty since 1998, Prof. Glasner danced nationally and internationally with the Twyla Tharp Dance Company from 1977 to 1987 and her teaching career has spanned more than two decades. Read about her recent work staging Twyla Tharp’s classic Eight Jelly Rolls for Barnard dancers in The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
