Dance Department administrator Sandra Velasquez is featured in a Wall Street Journal article about her music career with Pistolera, the band she founded in 2004. An excerpt from the article:
"While Ms. Velasquez's well-rounded background could have sent her in any number of directions, Pistolera's first two albums offered a vibrant blend of traditional Mexican folk styles such as cumbia, banda and norteños that prominently featured accordion and guitar. Rounded out with lyrics reflecting her experiences in Southern California, it was music about the life she'd left behind."
Also, read an interview with Velasquez in The Village Voice.
