History Fellowships

+ Bertha Vapnek Research Fellowship for Sophomore and Junior History Majors

This fellowship, worth up to $2500, supports a student's independent research over the summer.
       The student is
required to work with a faculty member in the History department to develop the
project. It makes sense, but is not required, for the research project to be relevant to the student's
intended senior thesis topic for next year.

Applications, including a brief description (one page, maximum) of the proposed research project,

must be submitted to Professor XXXXXXX  by April 1, 2007.

      + Lucyle Hook Travel Grants

Purpose: to provide funding for travel related to research for the Barnard senior thesis (endowed by
a late, emerita Barnard faculty member).

Award: varies, but normally ranges from $100-$500. Candidates apply to the faculty Committee on
Honors, which typically awards four or five grants each year.

Deadline: Please check back for 2007 deadline

Contact: Interested students should speak with Dean Blank by mid-October of the senior year and
obtain the Committee guidelines for application from her at that time. Decisions will be announced
       by mid-December.

+ History Matters: An Undergraduate Journal of Historical Research

HISTORY MATTERS, a publication from Appalachian State University, is looking for undergraduate
historical research papers for its latest issue. Submitted papers will be reviewed by a committee of
professors from several history departments in a thorough editorial process. This is an exciting
opportunity for students to get published! The deadline for the Spring 2007 issue is January 26, 2007.

More information on submission can be found on the HISTORY MATTERS website.
