PSYCHOTHERAPIST/OUTREACH COORDINATOR

The Furman Counseling Center is seeking a licensed mental health professional to provide clinical services to the students at Barnard College, and to coordinate all outreach efforts offered by the center.   Duties include: psychological assessment and diagnosis, short-term individual psychotherapy, and crisis intervention.  The Psychotherapist consults with deans and other campus staff concerned about specific student problems, maintains up-to-date and accurate patient records, and conducts group therapy and psychoeducation workshops, as needed.  S/he also coordinates all outreach efforts for the clinic, including new student orientation, advertising clinic services, depression, anxiety, and eating disorder screening days, and working with student groups to promote mental health awareness on campus. 

This position is full-time from the months of August to May.  Evening hours and on call duties are required.

Requirements:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology; or Ph.D. or Ed.D in counseling psychology; or Ph.D. in social work.  New York State license eligible.  Demonstrated ability to work with serious pathology (e.g. psychotic and suicidal patient).  Experience in community outreach.  Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.  Computer skills/experience with electronic health records.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing outreach initiatives for student of color populations; clinical experience in a university or college counseling service or completion of a fellowship in college mental health.   Advanced diagnostic and therapeutic skills, particularly using short-term treatment and crisis intervention.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, THE BARNARD FUND

The Associate Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of The Barnard Fund campaign for a segment of the alumnae body.  Reporting to the Director of The Barnard Fund, the Associate Director will recruit, coordinate and maintain close personal contact with key alumnae and class volunteers to set goals, identify prospects, and encourage giving to the College.  Working closely with the Director of The Barnard Fund, the Associate Director will assist in developing and planning appropriate annual giving strategies and cultivation activities. S/he will also be responsible for the review and management of in-house appeals for leadership prospects and the organization of alumnae volunteer calling for assigned classes. 

A bachelor's degree is required. Two or more years' fund raising experience working in higher education is preferred.  The successful candidate will possess good organization and management skills as well as excellent verbal and computer skills.  The ability to work with the public and have a sensitivity to confidential information is required.

MANAGER, FACULTY SPONSORED RESEARCH GRANTS

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Support, the Manager of Faculty Sponsored Research Grants provides administrative and research grant support to faculty members by facilitating submission to NSF, NIH, NASA and other public and private funders.  Reviews all sponsored research grant proposals and helps develop budgets to ensure compliance with agency guidelines, federal/state regulations and College policies; identifies appropriate funding sources in the public and private sectors for sponsored research grants and fellowships; and assists in the preparation, submission, and administration of institutional grant projects as required. 

Requires bachelor's degree and minimum of three years related experience (e.g., authoring proposals for funded research projects, preparing budgets, conducting web-based research).  Successful candidate will have exemplary interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work well with a broad range of personalities.  Ability to work independently and in small groups; to prioritize; and to meet strict deadlines essential.  Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills.  Strong computer skills necessary, experience with NSF “Fastlane” and/or Grants.gov highly preferred.

CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR

Reporting to the Manager for Custodial Services, the Custodial Supervisor will supervise the daily operations - including special event preparations - and personnel activities of College unionized custodial staff in campus buildings, residence halls and grounds. Responsible for personnel administration functions including processing new hires, employee record keeping, time keeping, accrued leave balances, etc.  The supervisor will maintain inventory of equipment and custodial supplies and requisition supplies, equipment and parts as needed and test new products. Will also work with Residential Life and Housing during summer months to insure that residence hall rooms will be cleaned and ready for fall students. 

 

Requires associate degree and three to six years’ experience relating to custodial services within an educational or similar institution, or a high school diploma and a combination of on-the-job experience and education equivalent to nine years.  Must have minimum of three years’ experience supervising a custodial staff of at least thirty people; experience with union-represented staff preferred.  Requires working knowledge of institutional custodial equipment and chemicals and ability to conduct related employee training sessions.  Computer literacy is required: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and web. 

 

The schedule for this position is 4PM-12:30AM Wednesday through Sunday with Monday and Tuesday as the regular days off.

SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

Reporting to the Associate Director of Network and Systems, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the troubleshooting the college-wide network problems, servers, infrastructure wiring and wireless communication.  The position works closely with Academic Technologies, the Facilities Office, Residential Life, and Media Services to maintain network connectivity to the offices, classrooms, and student residents.   In addition, the position is also responsible for IT projects' research and testing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supports the planning, design, documentation, implementation and maintenance of various systems to include servers, network equipment, and software applications.

  2. Works with other Network and Systems staff to troubleshoot problems.

  3. Oversees the college-wide network infrastructure wiring for offices, classrooms, and student residences.

  4. Assists Network and Systems staff with implementation and maintenance of the enterprise wireless communication network.

  5. Follows up Help Desk issues to resolution.

  6. Performs network operations such as network hardware installation and configuration.

  7. Performs network wiring terminations and reallocates network equipment when necessary.

  8. Performs additional and related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent training and/or experience.  Certifications in Linux, Microsoft, Solaris and Cisco a plus.

  • Minimum of one year experience in computer operations and user support.

  • Knowledge of LAN, Cisco, network operations, Unix (Solaris, Linux), Windows and TCP/IP.

  • Ability to work independently and interact positively with all members of the College community.

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
    Higher education experience is highly desirable.

DEAN, BARNARD LIBRARY AND ACADEMIC INFORMATION SERVICES

Reporting to the Provost and Dean of the Faculty, the Dean of Barnard Library & Academic Information Services (BLAIS) provides leadership, management and planning for all aspects of library and academic information services that support the teaching, learning and research missions of the College.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Plans, coordinates and directs all services, facilities and staffing associated with library and allied information services.  This includes:

a.     All units of the Library, including Public Services and Reference, Collection Services (Acquisitions, Cataloging, Maintenance), Collection Development and Access Services;

b.    Media Services and Sloate Media Center;

c.     the College Archives; and

d.    Educational Technologies. 

e.    9 professional staff, 11 support staff and a large number of part-time student workers.

2.     Determines overall policies and practices for BLAIS operations.

3.     Works closely with the College's faculty and administration in formal and informal settings to ensure that library and academic information services support and enhance the curriculum.  Chairs the BLAIS Committee and serves as a member of the College's Committee on Instruction, and other committees as appropriate.

4.     Maintains communication with Directors at Columbia University Libraries to coordinate library and related academic information services as appropriate.

5.     In collaboration with the Vice President for Information Technology, develops strategies for innovative approaches to the delivery and use of academic information services and technologies in support of the academic program at the College.

6.     Develops and monitors the budgets for all BLAIS units and manages the Library's gift and endowed funds.

7.     Works with Development and Institutional Support to identify or develop donor/grant opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited school.

  • Operational experience with information service technologies in an academic environment.

  • Minimum of 8 years of college/university experience in information services at the professional level required.

  • Extensive experience in public services supporting undergraduate coursework and research projects.

  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills.

MANAGER, ALUMNAE AFFAIRS

As a member of the Alumnae Affairs staff and reporting to the Director of Alumnae Affairs, the Manager will be responsible for the development and planning of alumnae programs in the following areas: recent alumnae, student/alumnae, professional and leadership development, and multicultural programs.  The Manager will also be responsible for the identification and support of class leaders for graduating classes from the 1990s to present.  S/he will recruit, hire, train, and manage student assistants for year round support including special hires for events.  The Manager will also act as a liaison with the Development staff and other College offices throughout the campus to help coordinate alumnae events.

THEATRE COORDINATOR

Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Development, and in close association with the Theatre Department, the Milstein Theatre Coordinator will serve as the facilitator and production supervisor of undergraduate student performances in the Milstein Theatre. The Coordinator will solicit and evaluate applications from student performance groups, advise the groups on technical requirements and limitations for their shows, and manage the production calendar for the Theatre. The Coordinator will also serve as the technical supervisor for selected productions and supervise the Student Production Assistant. Typically, the Coordinator will work several weeks on a daytime rotation, with some weeks supervising load-in, rehearsal, technical rehearsal, production, and strike in the evenings. The Coordinator will also collaborate with the Theatre Department Production Manager and staff when facilitating Departmental events in the Milstein Theatre. In addition, the Coordinator will be a part of the advising team in College Activities and will be expected to attend weekly staff meetings, monthly advising meetings and will work closely with his/her counterpart at Columbia University.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in professional or educational theatrical production, including demonstrated management and advising experience.  Other qualifications include: excellent problem-solving, communication and time management skills; demonstrated interest in student development; up-to-date knowledge of health and safety practices; experience with tight budgets and limited schedules; skill with theatrical lighting and sound equipment; and a flexible work schedule.
